Fruit and Nut and Cutty Ranks remix

We have Fruit and Nut taking over True Stories this week, so come down and see them. You know who they are and what they do. Three Babe-o-ramas who know their stuff. I wish I could make it but I won’t be there for the night.

That is Cutty Ranks. What a king.

This Week.

I don’t really know Haido, but I was impressed that one time he played Myd at Transmission before someone (maybe Riva Starr). He is also very polite and nice to talk to, and is a good mixer. He is likely to play Hip Hop and Tropical stuff…but who knows? I don’t.

He is one of the kind ones, so he did a mix for us. Check it out.

Haido – True Stories Mix

Here is the Tracklist…
1. Photek – Into The 90s

Dave Parle is a Weird Loser

If, like us; you hate Dave Parle, you wouldn’t have enjoyed his set last night. But, if for some reason you sort of want to kiss him, you would have thought his set was amazing. Huge. Big. Massive. All these words could describe it. Someone who didn’t despise the sight of him might have said he pulled out all the stops. So, props to Dave.

We have a nice, busy couple of days coming up, with True Stories and Toe Jam getting together this Saturday for SUPER SATURDAY, with Brazilian bands and True Stories’ DJ best friends Nic James and Illanja joining me (Orlando is my name), aswell as DJ Just Chill, who just arrived from New York, representing for France. Then on Sunday, out in Phoenix Park we have Pony Kids, which is the talk of the town right now. It’s run by the gay parade, lots of gays called James. True Stories DJ; king among men, ORLANDO will be representing, playing a pure classic hip hop set. It’s going to be good. Sexy good.

So, I have been negligent, I know, but I had stuff to do. Sorry baby, I will never leave you again. But, hey here is a little sorry. Lots of songs to have and hold and love and adore. Take care of them though, because they are special.

First up, if you only ever come to this site to download great Hipity hopity (and I know that makes up about half of you) then you are going to want to pick up these tracks:
Camp Lo – B-Side to Hollywood
Geto Boys – We Can’t Be Stopped
KRS One – Uh Oh
Souls of Mischief – Never No More
Common – The 6th Sense
Cam’ron – Hey Ma (feat. Juelz Santana

This song is ridiculous. So ridiculous. I think I might love it forever.
Jamtech Foundation – Park the 9 (ft. Voltage)

Uh, sorry, but Dubbel Dutch are amazing. I stumbled happily into them ages ago when I was looking for Double Dutch skipping chants and I pretty much enjoy every track I hear by them. This was the best track on Edu K’s recent EP.
Edu K – Jumpin n Pumpin (Dubbel Dutch remix)

I haven’t been playing as much Baltimore Club as I could in my sets, and I need to get some good new tracks. But here is some of the stuff I used to play in the mean time. Every single track here is amazing. The Metronomy remix is debatably not really Club, but it has the kick drum beat, and it is amazing, so who’s complaining?
Bell Biv Devoe – Poison (Alvaro & DJ Punish Edit)
MOP – Ante Up (Tittsworth remix)
Metronomy – Radio Ladio (Mac 3000 remix)
Emynd – The Club Champ (Scott Matelic “Slam” edit)
DJ Sega Vs. Lil Jon – Be Vs. Machuka
Flavo – Funkmore

…………and I’m done.

Kid Karate (DJ Set)

Kid Karate are Dublin’s most promising up and coming rock group. Steven and Kevin have been making an impact in the few months they have been playing shows around Dublin.

This is one of their first DJ sets together as a band, and it will be interesting to see what direction their True Stories set takes, likely to include the softer side of thier influences aswell as some of their favourite dance and hip hop songs.

Here, I am sorry that I haven’t given you any free music recently, but hopefully these ones will cheer you up.

First, a really lovely song…Notorious.
Notorious B.I.G. – Things Done Changed

This song is huge. Get it now.
Monie Love – It’s a Shame (My Sister)

This beat is so good. A great bit of classic hip hop.
Africa Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force

This song makes me want to run really fast through the streets of a Brazilian ghetto wielding a beretta above my head. I don’t know why. It’s brilliant.
Acidkids – Big Foot (feat. Marina) (Schlachthofbronx remix)

This song is great to play out in clubs. It has a really nice old school feel.
Edu K – Jumpin n Pumpin (Dubbel Dutch remix)

And finally, here are three songs with Coconut in the title.
Version – Coconut Tree
CocoRosie – Coconuts
Harry Nilsson – Put The Lime In The Coconut

St. Patrick’s Eve Party

That’s right; it is going to be stupid. Good DJs though. Just… Patrick’s Day? really? do we have to do Patrick’s eve too? yes? O-K.. 2 days of celebrating a man who was famous for getting rid of snakes in Ireland.. not true, he didn’t get rid of anything.

Thanks to Nic James (Shortie’s older brother & best man in the world) I have been getting a bit into dancehall. I don’t know why I haven’t loved this music forever. Here are two really famous classic dancehall songs that you might recognise.
Cutty Ranks – Limb by Limb
Chaka Demus & Pliers – Murder She Wrote

..and then there is this wicked recent dancehall song.
Alborosie – Blue Movie Boo

If you are trying to sleep with someone, this might help.
Roy Ayres – And Don’t You Say No

I often say that I don’t really like dubstep, but this is one of the good ones. BAM.
I.D. & Baobinga – Still Tippin’

A nice bit of Hipity Hopity too, if you are that way inclined.
Main Source – Looking At My Front Door

It’s Nic James!

Nic James is here. It’s about time. My favourite DJ in Dublin right now. He is playing True Stories this week.

Here are some tracks I would like you to hear.

First off a real fun Electro style Baile Funk tune with cool cut up vocals.
FrikStailers – Baile Frik

This song is my absolute favorite bit of Hip Hop right now. If you don’t already know it, then take it.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard – Lift Ya Skirt (feat. Missy Elliot)

I am also playing this a lot – “Hit you with the dick, make your kidneys shift”
The Notorious B.I.G. – One More Chance

Here is a Tropical Hip Hop remix I did of Maluca off Mad Decent. I would really like to know what you think of it.
Maluca – El Tigeraso (Orlando remix)

I would like to have made this song. It is totally dope. Tropical with a wicked female MC and amazing marimbas.
Timberlee – Gunny Gunny (Schlachthofbronx remix)

Everyone keeps talking about UK Garage and I think Roska is UK Garage. Plus this song is the business. The original is pretty good if you haven’t heard it peep it out.
Zed Bias – Neighbourhood (Roska remix)

This song is very good. It has a bit of a tropical beat with nice horn stabs. It has a very different sound to alot of the stuff I have heard recently.
Fool’s Gold – Surprise Hotel (M.A.T.H.E.S. remix)

This last song is amazingly beautiful. Layered delayed female vocals over a building euphoric beat, that would be perfect at a beach party as the sun rises.
Lusine – Two Dots (feat. Vilja Larjosto)
