Barry Farrell Tonight + Brooklyn Baby!

As I continue my travels in America I have been checking out some seriously amazing stuff in New York. Bembe Bar is a sweet little spot in Brooklyn, and last night it was blasting out some amazing Cumbia and Dancehall. I went to Uproot Andy‘s night, Que Bajo? last Wednesday, but sadly he was away, Geko Jones still held it down though with Chief Boima, who is playing all over New York and producing and is definitely someone to check out.

Dave Parle is hosting True Stories for me while I am away, and this week he has got Barry Farrell joining him. It should be a real nice night. Barry is going to play some Electro Swing or Swing Electro. It sounds great. There should be some nice summer feelings in the Bernard Shaw tonight. Have Fun.

Here are three songs about Brooklyn.
Jay-Z – Brooklyn’s Finest (feat. Notorious B.I.G.)
MC Lyte – Kickin’ 4 Brooklyn
Mos Def – Brooklyn

Last Antics and Handsome Paddy

Handsome Paddy was really super last night. He has mad skills when it comes to DJing and he showed them off last night real well. Onto over news though, Antics, the first night I had a residency at in Dublin, is ended forever tonight. It is going to be a real special night, so everyone should come on down.

These two tracks are my ultimate favorite songs right now. Especially the Tina Turner one, that is my jam right now, but Holiday is a total summer groove too.
Madonna – Holiday
Tina Turner – What’s Love Got To Do With It?

This is an amazing remix. Cut up dub reggae used as a backing track for one of the best MCs around.
Mos Dub – History Town

This is a beautiful bit of instrumental Dancehall. I love the cheesy guitar solo near the end too.
Teetimus and Daseca – Beauty Riddim

The NCAD Ball

True Stories are running a stage at the NCAD end of year ball this year and we are really excited with the line up. Joining me tonight will be local champion DJ TuKi. Just watch the video below, it will explain everything.

We also have the incredibly amazing act Geppetto: CoLab, combining live visuals and music. I am pretty excited about seeing these guys and I don’t know what to expect. I will also be dropping some hip hop classics with a bit of Dancehall too.

Fruit and Nut and Cutty Ranks remix

We have Fruit and Nut taking over True Stories this week, so come down and see them. You know who they are and what they do. Three Babe-o-ramas who know their stuff. I wish I could make it but I won’t be there for the night.

That is Cutty Ranks. What a king.

This Week.

I don’t really know Haido, but I was impressed that one time he played Myd at Transmission before someone (maybe Riva Starr). He is also very polite and nice to talk to, and is a good mixer. He is likely to play Hip Hop and Tropical stuff…but who knows? I don’t.

He is one of the kind ones, so he did a mix for us. Check it out.

Haido – True Stories Mix

Here is the Tracklist…
1. Photek – Into The 90s
2. Nas – Halftime
3. Paul White – The Dragon Fly
4. Kanye West – Breathe In Breathe Out (ft. Ludacris)
5. Jay-Z – Cashmere Thoughts
6. Raekwon – Incarcerated Scarfaces
7. 9 Lazy 9 – Black Jesus/Styles P – Who Want A Problem (Acappella)

Dave Parle is a Weird Loser

If, like us; you hate Dave Parle, you wouldn’t have enjoyed his set last night. But, if for some reason you sort of want to kiss him, you would have thought his set was amazing. Huge. Big. Massive. All these words could describe it. Someone who didn’t despise the sight of him might have said he pulled out all the stops. So, props to Dave.

We have a nice, busy couple of days coming up, with True Stories and Toe Jam getting together this Saturday for SUPER SATURDAY, with Brazilian bands and True Stories’ DJ best friends Nic James and Illanja joining me (Orlando is my name), aswell as DJ Just Chill, who just arrived from New York, representing for France. Then on Sunday, out in Phoenix Park we have Pony Kids, which is the talk of the town right now. It’s run by the gay parade, lots of gays called James. True Stories DJ; king among men, ORLANDO will be representing, playing a pure classic hip hop set. It’s going to be good. Sexy good.

So, I have been negligent, I know, but I had stuff to do. Sorry baby, I will never leave you again. But, hey here is a little sorry. Lots of songs to have and hold and love and adore. Take care of them though, because they are special.

First up, if you only ever come to this site to download great Hipity hopity (and I know that makes up about half of you) then you are going to want to pick up these tracks:
Camp Lo – B-Side to Hollywood
Geto Boys – We Can’t Be Stopped
KRS One – Uh Oh
Souls of Mischief – Never No More
Common – The 6th Sense
Cam’ron – Hey Ma (feat. Juelz Santana

This song is ridiculous. So ridiculous. I think I might love it forever.
Jamtech Foundation – Park the 9 (ft. Voltage)

Uh, sorry, but Dubbel Dutch are amazing. I stumbled happily into them ages ago when I was looking for Double Dutch skipping chants and I pretty much enjoy every track I hear by them. This was the best track on Edu K’s recent EP.
Edu K – Jumpin n Pumpin (Dubbel Dutch remix)

I haven’t been playing as much Baltimore Club as I could in my sets, and I need to get some good new tracks. But here is some of the stuff I used to play in the mean time. Every single track here is amazing. The Metronomy remix is debatably not really Club, but it has the kick drum beat, and it is amazing, so who’s complaining?
Bell Biv Devoe – Poison (Alvaro & DJ Punish Edit)
MOP – Ante Up (Tittsworth remix)
Metronomy – Radio Ladio (Mac 3000 remix)
Emynd – The Club Champ (Scott Matelic “Slam” edit)
DJ Sega Vs. Lil Jon – Be Vs. Machuka
Flavo – Funkmore

…………and I’m done.
